The Story
Leeds-based composer Joseph Lawrenson set out to transform his favourite classical pieces into the most beautiful love songs in the world. His cinematic debut album, Songs for Film, reimagines works by Bach, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Ólafur Arnalds and Simeon Walker as timeless chamber-pop songs — richly melodic, emotive and deeply cinematic.
“Songs for Film was an accident,” Joseph says. “As I listened to my favourite classical pieces, words would form over the melodies — they already felt like songs waiting to be sung.”
Lawrenson leads a stellar cast of collaborators and guest vocalists including Jasmine Kennedy, Julianna Zachariou, Alyesha Wise, Anew Day, Ajimal and IMOGEN. The result is a striking collection of original works and inventive reimaginings that blur the lines between classical, pop and film music — a soundtrack to the greatest film never made.
